Use These Inspirational Sources For Home Decorating

When looking to a source for interior decorating inspiration, be critical in a way that will help you to refine and define your own taste. When turning to the work of another designer for decorating ideas, carefully look at the room and consider the basics: floor, walls, ceiling, and overall ambiance. Do not focus on details. When you are done, ask yourself these questions:

o How does this room make me feel?

o Is it too formal?

o Are the colors too light or too dark?

o Is the flooring too dark or would I rather have something darker and more anchored?

o Is the wallpaper/wall color intriguing or annoying?

o Is the furniture warm, dark, white, or colored?

o What do I like and or dislike?

Bring the Warmth of the Italian Countryside Into Your Home With Easy Tuscan Kitchen Decor Ideas

Bring the Warmth of the Italian Countryside

Into Your Home With Easy, Inexpensive

Tuscan Kitchen Decor Ideas

Would you like to bring the beautiful Tuscan countryside into
your home? You will be glad to know that Italian-Tuscan decor
is very simple and inexpensive to achieve.

Tuscan decor favors wine, food and nature, so decorating your
kitchen in this theme is a natural. To create YOUR Tuscan
look, it should be bold yet simple. The use of interesting,
warm colors, attention to quality and detail, and the use of
creative, dynamic accessories will do the trick. Incorporate
the following features with your own, personal preferences
and you will have your own, unique Tuscan look.

Consider color first when creating your Tuscan kitchen.
The Tuscan countryside has a large influence on the color
palette popular in the region. Select from these rich,
earthy colors: golden pear, terracotta, olive greens, deep
browns and burgandy, mediterranean blues, red-orange and
warm, golden yellows.

Tuscan decor uses an abundant amount of texture, simply, by
using textured paints and techniques to create that old world,
Mediterranean look. Consider using the suede or granite paint
products on the market. Or you may use techniques such as
sponging or patterned rollers.

Now that you have laid the foundation for your decor–the
painting–you may look for Tuscan accessories to bring it to
life. The Tuscan decor look offers many options, allowing you
to express your own individuality. The most popular materials
used in Tuscan decorating include tapestry, tile, wrought iron,
ceramic, pottery, marble and hard woods. Check out a great online
home decor catalog for a unique selection of Tuscan kitchen decor at home decorating

The ultimate Tuscan kitchen is beautiful, but functional and
efficient–it should reflect your lifestyle. The Tuscan kitchen
decor theme celebrates food, family and friends.

Functional, yet decorative additions to your Tuscan decor, could
include, canister sets, shakers, glass jars, decanters for oil
and spices, metal containers, Italian style pots, bowls or plates
and wine accessories.

One of the best decorating spots for your Tuscan decor is above
the cupboards. Lay your foundation with the use of greenery,
grape vines, grape, berry or pear garlands and country floral
stems. You may even decide to add some sutle background lighting.
This is not a bad look by itself, but you can really make it “pop”
by adding pottery vases or bowls, metal teapots or urns, rustic
plates or chargers, or wine bottles–mix and match for a unique,
interesting look. Have fun with this area–it can really set
the mood for your entire kitchen. Remember, Tuscan decor is a
mixture of class with simplicity.

Depending on the size of your kitchen, you may consider other
Tuscan influenced pieces. You may use a wrought iron rack to
display / hang copper pots and pans. You should find a spot for
a Tuscan country wall clock; either featuring a wood or iron
frame. A country wildflower / sunflower, greenery or berry wreath
will accent the cupboard decor. One of the newer trend suggestions
would be to use a metal wall pocket vase–fill with floral–it
makes a very unique touch and will combine the floral and metal
features of your Tuscan kitchen. Iron wall decor is always a
popular choice when decorating in the Tuscan theme.

One of the most traditional styles and one that 1st brought our
attention to this versatile decorating style is wine decorating.
Use wine bottle racks, and decorative wine decor in your Tuscan
kitchen or entertaining center. A tabletop wine bottle holder
would be great on a snack bar or counter top. Unique wall and
floor style wine bottle and glass holders are also available to
complete your Tuscan room.

Other motifs that may be incorporated in with your Tuscan kitchen
decor are roosters, sunflowers, and pears. Think color and texture.

Kitchen Color Schemes

The kitchen is one of the most taken for granted parts of the house. You may think that the kitchen is only used for cooking, so fancy designs are not needed. Do not get tricked by this misconception. Kitchen color schemes are as important as any other color schemes used for other parts of the house. Color is the best way to express your moods, and it also creates an aura in the room you enter in. This element of design is crucial as it adjusts the mood of the people going in and out of the kitchen. Especially for the people who love to cook, they need to always get in the mood for cooking.

First, you need to look for a theme. A theme for the kitchen is effective since it can help you look for the perfect color scheme to follow. Colors usually depict a certain theme than people get when they enter the kitchen. This will narrow down color choices for you.

Clean look aka monochromatic scheme. The most common colors used as kitchen color schemes are white, peach, yellow and light colors. Kitchens are usually painted in one color to create a clean and neat look. Light colors are usually chosen since these tricks the eyes into making the kitchen look bigger by bringing in artificial light into the room. Different hues of the same color may be used to kill the boredom of having to use just one color.

Accented Scheme. Neutral colors such as gray, tan, taupe, and cream are usually paired with color accents which light up the room immediately. These liven up the look of the kitchen. Keep it simple but edgy.

Complementary Scheme. There are different ways to create a complimentary color scheme. These need not to be on the neutral side. Others may choose two bright colors which complement each other. It all depends on the look of the kitchen. If one color feels a little empty, feel free to add another one to enhance the look of the kitchen.

Analogous Scheme. This is for the more adventurous type of kitchen owners. These usually involve three hues which are adjacent on the color wheel. This usually needs to be carefully chosen because a wrong color choice can ruin the whole look of the kitchen.

When the kitchen color scheme has been chosen, other elements must be considered to pull the look all together. The cabinets must not be taken for granted; these are one of the most important things in the kitchen that can affect its look. Tiles and flooring must be chosen to fit into the look. Kitchen decors must also be complementary to the color scheme.

No matter what color scheme you use, you have to make sure that this is really what you want. People can get impulsive and just use whatever is there. You need to make sure that you will still love the look no matter how long it stays. It is better to plan thoroughly than to regret having chosen a certain scheme that you would want to replace immediately.

Different Color Schemes For Decorating Your Home

Often times homeowners feel overwhelmed about choosing a color scheme for a room. The thing about choosing a scheme is that once you do choose one color you have to decide on other potential colors to incorporate into the room as well. So, how do you choose the right scheme? The best way to do this is by consulting the color wheel.

What is the Color Wheel?

Sir Isaac Newton was the first person to start using the color wheel after performing an experiment with a prism. He discovered that pure white light had a wide spectrum of colors that would reflect. Ever since then, people have been using this spectrum known as the color wheel for decorating and classifying colors.

The Classification of Colors Using the Color Wheel

The colors on the wheel are classified into three different categories.

1. Primary which are made up of red, yellow, and blue.

2. Secondary which are orange, green, and violet. These colors are formed from mixing the primary colors.

3. Tertiary colors which include red-orange, yellow-orange, blue-green, and yellow-green. These colors are formed by combining primary with the secondary next to it.

Monochromatic Scheme Explained

A monochromatic color scheme is exactly as it sounds. It involves picking one color and only using that one for the entire room. The key to a monochromatic color scheme is to pick varying shades from light to dark of that color. You can also include white in the design as well to break up the look.

Analogous Scheme Explained

An analogous scheme incorporates anywhere from two-six different colors in the room. These should all be next to each other on the wheel. For example, if you choose red you can choose orange or purple as the accent colors for the room since they are next to red on the wheel. It’s a wise decision to start with your main choice and then pick between your accent colors.

Complimentary Color Scheme Explained

A complimentary scheme is one of the most popular decorating schemes that people use. You start off with a main color such as yellow and then you go directly across on the wheel to find your complimentary color. For yellow the complimentary color would be in the purple family. Another example would be green and pink. You can play with this a little bit and mix the family of colors such as the green and pink or it could be green and red.

Triad Scheme Explained

The triad color scheme is another very popular design for homeowners. It takes three colors that form a triangle together on the wheel. A triad could include the scheme of orange, green, and purple. You can choose to make one of these colors your primary and the other accents or use two of them as the primary colors and then accent with the third.

When choosing any color scheme for your home remember that white and black are neutrals and can be added to any colors and not change the scheme too much. Play around with the wheel and the different type of color schemes to come up with some great choices for your rooms.

Leon Tuberman has been part of the furniture and interior decorating business for 4 decades. He owns and manages his family owned furniture store. They offer a huge assortment of solid oak furniture for your living room, bedroom, dining room and wood office furniture that’s built in the Heartland of America. It doesn’t matter whether you’re shopping for an oak TV stand for your family room or a wood bed for your master bedroom then they have everything you need.

Interior Design Ideas – Color Scheme Types – What Are They and How Do I Choose One?

Color schemes are based on the color wheel. There are so many hues available and so many choices that it makes it hard to establish just one. There are millions of colors, but interior designers generally only use three to five hues for a scheme, plus two to three accent hues that are used in dashes here and there only. The main colors can vary by using tints, tones, and shades in different intensities for variety. For the types of color schemes we will discuss we will be using three to five hues. Let us explore the different types of schemes and perhaps that will help you to start by choosing a type of scheme that you like best.

You may want to view a color wheel while you read this article: Also note that white, grey, beige, taupe and black are considered neutrals and will not be included in the scheme. Some people use all neutrals and just splash the project with the hues they choose in their scheme. That is a beautiful look. Some people want more color and use more color on their walls, furniture and accessories. That is wonderful too. Each person has their own needs and wants as far as hues are concerned. It is important to choose hues that make you happy, hues you love. I have found that the hues that look good on you as clothing also look good around you in your space. Perhaps that can help you.

Monochromatic – Monochromatic schemes have one dominate hue. It is very important in this type of scheme to carefully distribute tints – (white with the hue), tones – (black with the hue) and shades – (grey with the hue) in varying degrees to add variety and excitement to the scheme. Neutrals are another thing that can be added which are white, beige, taupe, gray or even black can be very dramatic in this scheme.

Complimentary schemes are two hue schemes that are directly across from each other on your color wheel, like yellow and purple. The hues that are directly across from each other on the wheel are the hues that makes that color stand out the most. This technique can be used to make hues “pop” or stand out as much as they possibly can. It is like you knowing what color makes your eyes stand out the most when you wear it. I can tell you the one that does this the most of all is the complimentary, or hue directly across from your eye color, on the wheel. Have fun with these hues that compliment each other the very best!

Analogous schemes have three to five hues that are next to each other on the wheel. For instance, blue-purple-red or yellow-orange-red. Sometimes we can see these color schemes in nature and with this scheme I think of the fall season of green-yellow-orange-red. Such a beautiful scheme for those who like these hues.

Split Complimentary scheme is a three color scheme that is one hue and the two other hues across from it that are on either side of it’s complimentary color (see complimentary scheme above). An example of this would be green, purple and red. This again can create a very vivid color scheme because the hues are very close to the complimentary hue and enhance each other almost as much as the complimentary hues do.

Triad Schemes uses three hues that are equidistant from each other on the wheel. This is like the three primary colors – red, yellow and blue.

Inspiration for these color schemes can be found everywhere. Take a look at nature, the sky, your clothing, your favorite painting, magazine pictures and fabrics. Be sure your scheme is hues that you absolutely love! Anything less is not acceptable. You must look great in your scheme. Your color scheme should make you look beautiful!

How to Furnish Your Home

Tips for Furnishing Your Home Intelligently

This article will take you through a step-by-step process of choosing your decor and choosing and buying your furniture to place in your home and how to make your furniture work with the decor.

Furnishing your home can be a daunting task. Many people like to have an interior design plan and like to have furniture that fits the decor of their home’s interior. Before buying furniture, you might want to do some research, go to furniture stores and do some window shopping first.

You can do all kinds of different things and use certain objects to mix with real furniture pieces to have an interesting design. Some of you probably like the antique look or like to mix antique pieces of furniture with modern furnishings.

Color is very important in choosing the right furniture for your home. The best colors that work for your home and home furnishings are complementary colors. Complimentary colors work the best because these colors provide sharp contrast and make the entire room more appealing to the eye.

Complimentary colors are colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel. As a rule, all complimentary colors make brown when mixed together. Some good color combinations that work together are listed below.

1. Blue and orange is a pair of complimentary colors that work great together. For those of you who like sharp contrasts and bright colors, you can paint your rooms with shades of blue and have furniture that has orange upholstery. Also add orange window dressings. Furthermore, this color combination can involve different combinations of shades, tints and hues of blue and orange.

For example, if you have bluestone tile in your foyer, use terra cotta grout with the tile. Paint the walls an earthy orange, or you can also paint your walls a bittersweet or terra cotta color to compliment the bluestone tile floor. The ceiling can then be a light day glow color, which is more a yellow-orange color.

For the furniture that is to go into the foyer, you have plenty of options. You can have a nice armoire with a bench that is made of oak or cherry with a stain that brings out the reds and oranges in the wood.

You can also have an armoire for your coats and shoes painted a nice royal blue and a matching bench to sit on when putting on your shoes that is painted a royal blue with bright orange cushions. Other ideas for other rooms that would work well with the blue and orange can be your kitchen, bathroom, or living and dining rooms.

2. Purple and yellow is a color combination that works great for your formal dining room. For example, if you have the dining room painted maize yellow, you should look for window dressings a deep burgundy color. As far as furniture is concerned for such a color combination, wood that is very dark works the best.

If you cannot find the properly stained dining room set for your dining room that is of this color combination, buy unfinished furniture and do the finishing yourself. If you choose to go this route, choose a stain that makes the furniture look dark. A very good stain is a merlot color. Merlot might make the wood look too red if it is a light-colored wood.

Before staining your unfinished dining set, ask the furniture store where you bought the set for a scrap piece of wood that is the same wood that the dining set is made from. Use this piece of wood to test certain stains to get the desired color. For example, if your furniture is made from aspen, which is very light in color, a combination of stains would be needed to get the desired color.

The best combination of stains for an aspen dining set for a room that has maize yellow walls and burgundy window dressings is a mixture of red oak, merlot, and walnut. These three stains can give the furniture a beautiful dark purple-reddish color. The color is enhanced if you use a high-gloss spar urethane varnish.

Spar urethane is actually a varnish that is used outside and even on wooden boats, but it is very durable and lasts a long time. Table cloths should be a burgundy color or another shade of a reddish purple and gold threaded embroidery. Napkins should be of a yellow or golden color.

3. Red and green can usually be associated with Christmas, but this makes a nice color combination also. The Chinese use red and green all the time in their traditional design. For those of you who like the oriental style, this color combination is a must. Reds and greens also work well with dining rooms and living rooms.

Positioning your furniture

Positioning your furniture is also very important. You want the furniture to be in flow with the room. Try not to have divans block or divide the room. Divans work the best when they are against the wall.

In the more open areas of the rooms should be mostly kept open, however, some seats can also be positioned in the open areas, but closer to the walls or where other pieces of furniture are, such as tables and snack stands. The proper way to furnish each room and how to position the different pieces of furniture in each room is as follows:

1. The bedrooms can be one of the most difficult rooms to furnish. Beds and their components such as mattresses, head boards and spring boxes are often cumbersome and difficult to handle. Furthermore, they take more that one person to move and position in place in most cases.

The beds should be placed more towards the center of the room with the head board up against the wall. Do not place the head board up against a window if the window is lower than the height of the head board. Night stands should be placed on either side of the bed at the head board end.

The purpose of a nightstand is to have things that you need for the night, therefore it would make perfect sense to have them at your hand’s reach. Dressers and mirrors should also be positioned against the wall where there is no window. Bed spreads should be color coordinated with the color of the paint or wall paper in the bedroom.

2. The formal dining room is a bit easier to position the furniture than the bedrooms. The formal dining room is the room where special meals are eaten, during holidays and other special occasions. This room is not intended to eat in on a daily basis. That is done in the kitchen dinette usually.

In furnishing the formal dining room, you should first place the table and the chairs. The dining room table and matching chairs is best positioned in the middle of the room. Other pieces of furniture that go into the dining room include hutches and possibly some sort of sound system for entertaining. Hutches should be placed against a solid wall.

You can also get corner hutches that fit nicely into a corner of the dining room. Likewise if you choose to have a stereo in the dining room, you need a stereo cabinet that houses the stereo system and some shelves to store CDs.

With today’s technology, however, that can also be obsolete because you can get sound systems that you can plug your iPod or other portable music players into. These sound systems should be concealed in a nice cabinet that matches the rest of the furniture in the dining room. Speakers should be installed in inconspicuous areas in the room yet be the least visible as possible.

3. The living and family rooms are complex rooms in the house where the most action in the home takes place. The family or living room is a room that is designed to be for the whole family. This is the room that has the TV set and other things for the family to be entertained.

Usually the TV sets of today are large plasma screen TV sets and are incorporated with other components of a home entertainment system. The Plasma screen TV should be either affixed to a special entertainment center cabinet or you can also get plasma screen TVs that can be hung from the wall.

The wall mounted plasma TVs often need to be hard-wired into the house’s electrical systems, though now you can get some TV sets that can be connected wirelessly to the satellite box, DVD players and DVRs as well as the sound system.

If your TV and entertainment system comes with surround sound, the small speakers need to be positioned in various places of the room where the best sound effect would come from. The woofer should be in part of the entertainment system cabinet but should not be covered.

The entertainment system cabinet should be placed against a windowless wall that everyone in the room can comfortably face, especially if the TV is incorporated in the cabinet. Divans and love seats should also be placed against walls. Coffee tables should be placed in front of the divan.

Armchairs can be placed in open places but out of the way of daily traffic. Most armchairs are recliners, so the wall might prevent the armchair to function properly. Therefore armchairs are best in open places. Shelves and bookcases should also be placed against the walls.

4. The home office is usually one of the easiest rooms to furnish. The home office usually consists of a computer desk or regular desk, a seat at the desk, shelves and bookcases and file cabinets. The computer desk is a rather large piece of furniture.

Most computer desks are designed to serve as both, a regular desk, where you have a place to write notes or letters by hand and a place for all the components for your desktop computer. Usually the typical computer desk has a cubby hole for your computer’s monitor and at the bottom a cabinet for the tower case of your computer.

Your computer’s keyboard and mouse are usually placed on a flat surface that slides in and out like a drawer. Your computer desk might also have other cabinets that are above the computer’s monitor to store disks and other computer or work related items.

This piece of furniture should be placed against a wall. If the seat that comes with the computer desk is a swivel seat with wheels, you should have a special mat for that seat, especially if the floor in your home office is carpeted.

For those of you who have laptop computers instead of desktop computers, a regular desk should be sufficient. Shelves and bookcases should also be placed against walls and out of the way.

There are many different ways to furnish your home. If you really want to be wild and eccentric, there are many different websites that show unique ways on how to furnish your home.

Furnishing your home with boxes can be a unique way to furnish your home and can also give your home an interesting style. One website even shows how you can furnish your house with FedEx boxes. You can even build beds, divans, and even computer desks for as cheap as three to five dollars per box. This can sure beat spending thousands of dollars on expensive furniture.

Though having look like a FedEx box may look off the wall or “poor,” you can also be more creative. These boxes can also be painted. If you are the artistic type and do not have much money, you can take packaging and moving boxes, which are made from strong enough cardboard that can hold computers.

You can even find paints that can give the boxes a waterproof coating and keep the cardboard from deteriorating when you spill a drink on your cardboard furniture.

There are many different ways you can furnish your home. Every person and every family is different and has a different style. This article provides you with some of the basics on furnishing your home. The above paragraph is just one example of how innovation can come up with unique money-saving ideas to furnish your home on a low budget.

Some of you, however, like to spend money and like to have furniture that looks sharp and tasteful. What ever your financial situation is, there is a way out there that you can find to both furnish your home and make it your home sweet home.

The Beginner’s Guide to Fully Furnished Apartments

What are fully furnished apartments?

Fully furnished apartments, as is evident from the name, are apartments that are rented out or let out for lease along with accompanying amenities. These amenities include:

• Air conditioning units
• Water heaters
• Room heaters (in cold countries)
• Essential kitchen appliances and equipments
• Beds, mattresses, pillows, and the corresponding sets of bed sheets and spreads
• Television set
• Wireless internet
• Wardrobe
• Essential furniture (tables, chairs, couch, dining table, desks etc.)

The basic test of determining whether an apartment is furnished for real, or merely a semi-furnished apartment masquerading as a furnished rental, is to check out if the unit comes with all the basic necessities, and a few luxury items. In other words, the true test is this – when you move into an apartment, and there is nothing specific that you have to purchase on your own, in order to make it habitable, it means it is a fully furnished apartment.

In some cases, the furnished apartments come with curtains for windows, washing machines, and general cookware as well.

What are the various kinds of fully furnished rentals?

Fully furnished living spaces come in all shapes and sizes. Starting off small, there are fully furnished studios. Moving on to the apartment family, you can find one, two, or even three bedroom apartments that are furnished. There are also fully furnished villas and tree houses.

In most cases, corporate apartments and guest houses are always fully furnished, because they are generally occupied on short notice, and for shorter periods of time. In such a case, it would not be feasible to offer up unfurnished apartments, because it would be uneconomic and unrealistic to expect a guest, a visiting businessman, or a professional to spend their short trip looking for furnishings to make their place habitable.

What are the advantages of looking for a furnished apartment?

Although the price of furnished apartments and condos is relatively higher, there are two main advantages to these kinds of accommodations –

1. They save time, and in some cases, cost as well. You need not spend a week or two looking around for furniture and equipments. Also, the costs of purchasing each piece of furnishing individually is much higher than the compressed price that is included in the price quoted for the apartment.

2. Moving from one place to another can be hectic. And having to refurnish your new living space can be a lot of pain, and it can be stressful. Instead, going home to a furnished space can be peaceful and relaxing.

Overcoming Color Scheme Challenges in Home Decorating

Color Schemes That Affect Moods

Color is a major player in the design world and rightly so because of the effects it has on the entire room and decorating project. But deciding on the right color scheme is sometimes where most people get stuck.

Selecting a color scheme can certainly be a real challenge even to design professionals. Which means total frustration to most of us beginners. But wait, don’t fret just yet… you are about to learn more about color schemes that will help you think like the pro’s.

Understanding color and how it affects your moods and feelings is the key to unlocking the mystery of color. Did you know that color can excite you, make you feel happy, comfortable, relaxed, anxious and even sad?

Color can also make small spaces appear larger and large spaces appear smaller. Color can make or break your entire design project. Color can even make or break a sale. Yes, color is an extremely powerful tool in the design world and in your personal world as well.

Let’s start with the basic color wheel. It was designed to teach us the relationships of color. You’ve heard of Designers talk of color schemes and their relationships. The color wheel helps us with this.

On the color wheel you’ll see primary colors (red, yellow, and blue) evenly spaced between secondary colors (orange, green and violet). Then there’s the third or tertiary colors, which mixes the adjacent or analogous colors and lastly the fourth or quaternary colors.

The most basic color rule is that colors are either warm or cool. Warm colors advance or pop out while cool colors tend to recede or move away. Are you drawn to warm colors like reds and yellows? Or cool colors like blues and greens?

Warm colors are inviting, comfortable, relaxing and intimate. Cool colors are refreshing, more reserved, relieves and calms.

If you draw a line down the middle of the color wheel, warm and cool colors will be on opposite sides of each other. Every warm color has a cool compliment.

So how do you decide on your color choice? Once you’ve narrowed down your selection (and I would add at this point to narrow down your selection to three choices), take the paint chips or samples home.

Most paint companies now have larger paint chips so that you can experience your color samples effectively. I take it a step further by purchasing my top three paint colors in the pint size (not gallon size) cans and painting each color on a poster board. (The paint chips are just not large enough for me.) I then tape these poster boards on my wall in the room to be painted. I live with these three colors for a few days… experiencing daylight and nightlight.

You see lighting has a major effect on color. Both daylight and nightlight will change the look of your color, guaranteed. So live with your color choices on these poster boards for a few days and then you will know for sure which is the best color for your color scheme.

Some people ask me if it’s OK to paint accent walls, or to have one or two colors in the same room. I say absolutely. Color scheming is not just about choosing colors that you like, but choosing likable, livable colors that produce dramatic effects.

That’s what accent walls do. Choose a color that pops, add excitement and works well with the other colors in the room. You can also switch accent colors from room to room.

There’s really no set rule but you do have to choose livable colors that relate well with the color schemes already around you. Some colors just don’t work well together, and that’s what you want to avoid.

That is why paint manufacturers arrange colors sympathetically- in close relationships that enhance each other- in their paint decks (books of paint chips you can purchase from the store). By fanning the paint deck out, you can choose related colors more easily.

Now if you don’t like the idea of multiple related color schemes in your home, you can choose to use a whole-house color scheme by sticking to one color. This one-color continuity scheme can make a small room seem larger and give a sense of harmony and serenity.

One-color schemes called Monochromatic come in two varieties – you can use a single color, or tonal variations of one color. Monochromatic color schemes are considered very chic and quite contemporary in fashion.

Most commonly used monochromatic schemes are white and beige but beware – white and beige tend to highlight any flaws. You want to make sure all your whites and beiges are either cool or warm and inject patterns and textures for added interest.

Here are some tips to remember:

To make a room look larger- use light, cool colors.
To make a room cozier and inviting, use warm colors.
To make a ceiling look higher, use white or light colors.
To drop the ceiling and make lower, use darker colors.

Some say the best all-time rule to follow is this:

Your primary areas – floors, walls, and ceilings – should receive neutralized colors in a range of values. Make the floor the darkest surface, the walls medium, and the ceiling the lightest value.

Your color schemes start with your choice of fabric, upholstery, and furniture selections. All should relate with each other. Of course other components to consider within the space are the window treatments, rugs, carpet, tile, and accessories like lamps, pillows, vases and so forth.

Don’t let all this scare you. Start with the furniture showcases to see what really lights you up. Take notes, bring your magazine tear-outs. It will be clear to you soon enough what you like and dislike. Your color scheme will begin to emerge just like you will, into a beautiful room that says this is YOU.
